Color Workshop - Saturday, June 14
9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Instructor: Sandy Meyer, Watercolorist, TWSA, WHS
This workshop is for amateur and experienced artists who want to create more exciting art through a new awareness of color and how it affects their work. Students will take inspiration from Andy Warhol’s use of color on the final weekend of the exhibition.

Outdoor Sketching Workshop – Saturday, July 12
10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Instructor: Mary Sundstrom, B.F.A. Painting/Drawing
This class, for all skill levels, will coincide with an exhibition of drawings by Ferdinand Richart. Students will explore graphite and charcoal mark making, as well as touch on composition and value. Sketching will start inside the gallery and then move outdoors to record visions of the city.

Watercolor Workshop – Saturday, August 9
9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Beginning to intermediate watercolor students will learn how to use the basic palette of colors to create new colors, the importance of value to successful paintings, basic methods of applying paint, special techniques, washes, wet-in-wet, composition and more.

The Art of Poetry, The Poetry of Art – Wednesday, August 20
1:30 pm – 4:00 pm
Instructor: Linda Nemic Foster
M.F.A. Creative Writing, First poet laureate of Grand Rapids
A hands-on workshop to explore the exciting connections between visual art and poetry. Inspired by the museum's current exhibits and permanent collection, students will use writing exercises to compose poems that reflect a dialogue between the visual image and the written word.
